Current situation.... re-imagining my print design Current situation.... re-imagining my print designs for a new project, inspired by scarification patterns. I love revisiting this story as it's and often misunderstood African traditional practice.

Here's another reason why this practice was an important of culture across tribes in Sub-Saharan Africa; Scarification was believed to indicate resistance to pathogens and to demonstrate attractiveness, superior value and a symbol of health for individuals seeking potential marriage partners. Scarification was used as aesthetic adornments and intended to attract partners. For instance, among the Tiv ethnolinguistic tribe in Cameroon and Nigeria, raised keloids have been described to induce euphoric feelings when touched, both among men and women.
