The Ma'at Bag from the Faces of the Earth collection draws inspiration from the ceremonial masks of the Sukuma people of Tanzania, who represent one half of ANYANGO's heritage. Long associated with storytelling, protection, and ancestral presence, these masks inform the spirit of each piece.
Handcrafted from natural raffia and embroidered with imagery translated directly from ANYANGO's original paintings, every bag is created by hand and no two are ever exactly alike. Variations in the weave, embroidery, and finish are celebrated as part of each bag's unique character.
The Ma'at Bag draws its name from the Egyptian goddess Ma'at, the ancient symbol of truth, justice, and balance. Celebrating the beauty of equilibrium, it honors the idea that strength and wisdom emerge when all things exist in harmony.
