The Wadjet from the Faces of the Earth collection draws inspiration from the ceremonial masks of the Sukuma people of Tanzania, who represent one half of ANYANGO's heritage. Long associated with storytelling, protection, and ancestral presence, these masks inform the spirit of each piece.
Handcrafted from natural raffia and embroidered with imagery translated directly from ANYANGO's original paintings, every bag is created by hand, and no two are ever exactly alike. Variations in the weave, embroidery, and finish are celebrated as part of each bag's unique character.
The Wadjet draws its name from one of ancient Egypt's oldest goddesses, a powerful guardian of Lower Egypt and a symbol of protection and sovereignty. Often embodied as the rearing cobra, Wadjet was associated with divine authority and was represented on the crowns of Egyptian rulers as a vigilant protector. Her story speaks to feminine power as instinctive, watchful, and sovereign.
